Welcome to the sign-up post for Issue 9 of
cornerflag! Since this is an Olympic summer, this will be a special international issue and the theme is:
altius citius fortius
You may interpret the theme any way you wish (feel free to be creative!), or you can ignore it altogether, but you do have to sign up for an international rather than club twosome, and you do have to set your story during a time when both players were active members of the same team. Stories that are written for the theme will be marked out for the readers' attention.
The usual rules and guidelines apply. Note: while we do our best to keep track of popular pairings in fandom, we can't always keep up with what's hot in teams the editors have little interest in, so we accept sign-ups on trust that the twosome you choose is an uncommon one. If we do know that the pairing you want is not rare (a good rule of thumb: if it has its own comm, it definitely doesn't qualify for
cornerflag), we reserve the right to ask you to choose a different one.
To sign up, please leave a comment with the following information:
Reminder: Each team is limited to only two stories (with certain exceptions -- see #8 on the list of rules and guidelines) and each writer may only sign up for one country. This post will be updated with a list of writers sorted by team, so you can see if all the slots for a particular country are taken up.
( The List )
This sign-up post will stay open up to a week before the stories are due. The deadline for submitting your story is 18 July 2012, 11:59pm GMT. Please refer to the admin post for information on how to format and submit your story.
Issue 9 will be published on 25 July 2012, when the football tournament at the Olympics begins.
We look forward to reading your stories! You are very welcome to join
flaggeddown, our discussion community to chat, vent, and cheer people on.
ETA: for some reason livejournal is screening random comments! This is very annoying! But they all make their way to our inbox, screened or not, so don't worry about it, your signup will be seen and noted and we'll unscreen as soon as we can.

Dear denizens of
cornerflag, hello! We hope you all enjoyed the last issue - the two of us certainly did. And while it seems a long ways away, we wanted to ask you all some questions about what you'd prefer to see in the next issue!
As you may or may not be aware,
cornerflag does periodical "special issues" dedicated to national rather than club teams. Historically there's been one every four issues, which is convenient, since there tends to be a really big international tournament over the summer every two years. Due to various reasons, though, there was only one issue last year, so we could either do the special issue out of sequence this summer or put it off till next year and do another regular club issue. We have tentative themes picked out for either instance, so sound off in the comments and give us a sense of what you would all prefer! We can't make real polls so you'll just have to make do with the lo-fi version.
In either case, we would probably be aiming to have the issue posted in late July or August. If you've got any questions or points you want clarified, feel free to ask! We look forward to hearing from you guys.

You have two days and one hour! Go go go!
I know, it hardly seems fair when
yuletide reveals aren't even up yet, but you only have a bit more than two weeks till submissions are due, so start thinking about getting started, if you haven't yet! (I haven't, and my better half is only slightly further along, there's no need to panic. Just... get going soon.) You can still sign up, or change your sign-up, until a week before deadline, i.e. January 6, and
flaggeddown is here if you want to talk about what you're writing, or procrastinating on, as the case may be. There is no penalty whatsoever for defaulting, just so you all know and don't fret, but we hope to see all of your submissions on - or, be still my beating heart, before - deadline day! (If you know absolutely beyond a shadow of a doubt that you can't participate this issue after all, though, you can drop us a message or a comment on the sign-up post and we'll take you off the list.)
13 January 2012, 11:59pm GMT is still the submission deadline. Plan accordingly. And happy writing!

Sign-ups look to have gone swimmingly--there's a lovely mix of teams and characters on the list and we're very much looking forward to seeing what you all come up with! If you've been hesitating about signing up, you can do so until a week before submissions are due (which is 13 January 2012, 11:59pm GMT, don't forget!), so there's still plenty of time.
We wanted to offer you all a couple of handy links for when you're writing or thinking of what to write:
We also want to gently remind you of one particular thing from the rules post:
Bad spelling and grammar are not acceptable. The editors readily accept content that would give self-appointed moral guardians the vapours, but they will bin stories which require them to pick through paragraph after paragraph of unintelligible writing. Yes, they will do this even if it means that a club will end up having no stories to its name in the anthology.
We want all of your stories! However, we also don't want to have to spend every waking second of the week between submission and posting cleaning them up. If you need help finding a beta, just ask and we'll do our best to get you one! And if you are willing to be a beta, please let us know that too.
So. Two months exactly till deadline day. Any of you overachievers gotten started yet?

Welcome to the sign-up post for Issue 8 of
cornerflag! As some of us head back to school, the theme is:
Academy
You may interpret it any way you wish: two teammates on a youth team, for example, or former teammates taking up coaching a youth team, or current teammates who were also teammates at the youth level. (Just to clarify: the fic does not have to take place at an academy to qualify.) Feel free to be creative! This theme is optional -- you're still free to write whatever you like, though we strongly encourage you to take up the theme. Stories that are written for the theme will be marked out for the readers' attention. You do still have to adhere to the club-twosome rule, though!

Hi,
cornerflag!
meretricula and
stickmarionette here. As you know by now, we're temporarily taking over so that
lemongrasstea can have a bit of a break. We will do our best to keep things the way they are so she can have a clean house to come home to next year!
We will be returning to the original schedule for
cornerflag this year, so there will be two issues, the first of which will have sign-ups in early November and should be posted in mid-to-late January. If you have any questions at all, please go ahead and comment here or message
5thofficial, and we'll answer as quick as we can!
We're very excited for a new issue of
cornerflag, and we hope you all are too!

When
cornerflag first put out a call for sign-ups a few years ago, nobody involved in the project anticipated that it'll be more than a one-shot. Happily, fandom's enthusiasm for the anthology outstripped its initial modest ambition -- though, admittedly, some of my wishes for it turned out to be not so modest after all (e.g. I'd originally envisioned putting out a call for fan artists to make a cover for each issue, but that got too hard to manage). It's been a pleasure and a privilege to work with all of you: writers and readers and everyone else who made
cornerflag what it is.
I apologise profusely for the long silence. My life has gone through quite a bit of upheaval in the past year, most of it for the good, but between postgraduate studies and moving to another country I've had very little time for my other loves. Therefore, I'm taking a year-long sabbatical from
cornerflag and, sadly, football fandom in general.
But never fear!
cornerflag isn't dead. Or even hibernating, as it were. The lovely
meretricula and
stickmarionette have bravely stepped up to the penalty spot. They'll be running
cornerflag for the next year, and I'm sure that the next issue will be a joyous one. Say hello to your new overlords editors, gentlebeings. ;)
See you in a year, and again: thank you so much for everything.
